WORTHLESS TRASH - FEBRUARY 2010

MISSING LINK - 'Too Young To Rock And Roll'.

Schoolboy powerpoppers Missing Link released this great two-sider on the RCA label in July 1981. Mike Hurst who wrote and produced the A-side 'Too Young To Rock And Roll' gives the boys some post-glam teenybop appeal. The B-side 'Why Me' is pure Thamesbeat, but may actually be a better song than The Pleasers ever managed.

JOHNNY PALERMO - 'Saturday Night'.

Johnny Palermo was responsible for two killer pseudo-punk singles on the Belgian label Hans Records in the 2nd half of 1978. Both 'Saturday Night' and it's follow-up 'Silly Old Songs' were written by the songwriting team of Robert and Rene Vlaeyen (ex Octopus). Neither record seen any action elsewhere despite being hit singles in Belgium.

THE REVENGE - 'Our Generation'.

The Revenge were a trio from Cheshunt in Hertfordshire who released two fantastic primitive punk singles. 'Our Generation' was the first of those singles and was released in July 1978 on their own Loony label. Singer/guitarist Lol Hammond later joined early 80's outfit The Eternal Scream before finding success in the dance music scene.

SMACK - 'Oversexed'.

Smack debuted in 1980 with the impressive 'Edward Fox' which gained some decent reviews and was a #13 indie chart hit. The less successful and much rarer follow-up 'Doctor Doctor' was released a year later on the Aspirin label. The A-side has a vaguely Killing Joke feel, but we think the flip 'Oversexed' is the better track.

DOWNLINERS SECT - 'Showbiz'.

60's R&B band Downliners Sect reformed in late '76 and were clearly inspired by the punk explosion when this single was recorded for Raw Records in 1977. 'Showbiz' is a fantastic amped up garage punker, though the B-side 'Killing Me' is closer to their 60's R&B roots. The Sect also recorded a whole album of punk tunes under the name F.U.2.
